Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417)
This is a temporary visa for young people who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year. It encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between Australia and eligible countries.
This visa allows you to:
- stay in Australia for up to 12 months
- work in Australia for up to six months with each employer
- study for up to four months
- leave and re-enter Australia multiple times while the visa is valid.
Eligibility:
First Working Holiday Visa
You might be eligible for this visa if you:
- have not previously entered Australia on a Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462)
- hold a passport from an eligible country
- are between at least 18 years of age but have not yet turned 31.
- a genuine visitor who wants to holiday in Australia
- can support yourself financially while on a working holiday (about 500AUD)
- can purchase a return or onward travel ticket at the end of your stay
- will not be accompanied by dependent children during your stay
- have a valid passport or other travel document for this visa
- meet the health and character requirements
- have no outstanding debt to the Australian Government.
You must be outside Australia when your visa application is lodged and approved.
Second Working Holiday Visa
You are eligible for this visa if you:
- have complied with all the conditions of your First Working Holiday visa
- have not previously held more than one Working Holiday visa
- have completed three months of specified work in regional Australia while on your first Working Holiday visa
- have not yet turned 31 years of age
If you apply in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is approved.
If you apply outside Australia, then you must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.
